She has detailed the coming of age of two sisters from the town of Fingerbone, crafted a series of essays on modern thought, weaved together the last words of a pastor from Gilead, Iowa, and now Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Marilynne Robinson, is pushing her plot forward with a speaking engagement at Cedarville University on September 12.

The world first heard Robinson’s fictional voice in 1980 with her award-winning novel, Housekeeping. Twenty-four years later, Robinson released her second work of fiction, Gilead, which received the Pulitzer Prize. Her nonfiction works include Mother Country: Britain, the Welfare State and Nuclear Pollution (1989) and The Death of Adam (1998).

Robinson holds degrees from Brown University and the University of Washington, where she obtained her Ph.D.  She serves on the faculty of The University of Iowa Writers Workshop and awaits the release of her third novel, Home

Cedarville University invites the public to hear Robinson’s presentation and perhaps sense what The New York Times Book Review has described of her work: "so precise, so distilled, so beautiful that one doesn’t want to miss any pleasure it might yield."

The event is free and open to the public.  For more information, call 937-766-7740, or visit www.cedarville.edu/events.

Tuesday, September 16
4:00 p.m. (book signing in the University bookstore)
8:00 p.m. (presentation)

A fiery evangelist in communist China, Brother Yun was imprisoned, beaten, and tortured for his unwavering faith in God.  After many years of increased persecution, Brother Yun escaped from a maximum security prison and eventually made his way to the Western world to share his testimony and challenge Christians to live out a passionate commitment to Jesus Christ.

His autobiography, “The Heavenly Man,” has touched the lives of many and was followed by the recent release of the companion volume, “Living Waters.” Cedarville University would like to invite the public to hear Brother Yun share his message in a public presentation.  He will also be doing a signing for his new book earlier in the day at the University bookstore.

This event is free and open to the public.  For more information, call Jon Purple, Student Life Programs, at 937-766-7955.
