AUTO ACCIDENTS

If you’re suffering from an auto accident, you might be surprised to learn that chiropractic care can provide a drug-free way to relieve your pain. For instance, if you have back pain or neck pain after being involved in a car accident, this could mean you have a spinal or whiplash injury. If you do not receive proper care, these types of injuries can have a serious, negative impact on your health. They can lead to months, or possibly even years, of chronic pain.

Our Chiropractic team is experienced in treating patients who have been injured in automobile accidents. And they know the best methods for managing whiplash and or spinal injuries–without resorting to medication or surgery.

What can happen as the result of an auto accident injury is that the musculoskeletal system is knocked out of proper alignment because of the force of the accident; back and neck pain can occur as a result. A whiplash injury can happen from the force of a rear-impact accident that cause the abrupt movement of the cervical spin backward and forward, or whipped (hence the name of the condition). This will knock the spine out of its alignment and strain the neck muscles, which causes pain, soreness, and stiffness.

Whereas traditional medicine generally relies on medication to cover up pain symptoms, chiropractic treatment addresses the underlying injury, whether it is spinal or whiplash. Painkillers provide immediate relief to the patients, but they do not offer a long-term solution when it comes to managing the pain. In addition, medication does not do much in terms of helping patients regain lost mobility after spine or whiplash injury. Chiropractic adjustments not only can relieve pressure on the muscles and nerves, but it also brings alignment back to the spine. Additional therapies, such as corrective exercise, can help bring back the body’s full range of motion.

If you’re suffering from an auto accident injury–regardless of whether it was a “fender bender” or a major crash–don’t wait to deal with your pain. Prompt chiropractic care will help support your body’s natural healing process and help you avoid a lifetime of chronic pain or other health problems.

REDUCING STRESS IN 2020

We live in a very busy world. Many of us are balancing responsibilities of work and home life as well as additional demands placed on us by our greater communities and society at large. As we head into 2020 one area of personal wellness to focus on that can have tremendous benefits towards increasing your overall sense of physical and emotional well-being is stress management.

There are numerous signs and symptoms related to stress and they include both physical and emotional red flags. Stress, if left unmanaged, can exacerbate the underlying symptoms of medical issues. Some common signs of stress include: headaches, low energy, upset stomach, sleep problems, and frequent colds.

Four tips have been included below to help you towards finding an effective way to manage stress in 2020.

Tip #1: Schedule time in your day for regular exercise. Stress can trigger the release of “fight or flight” hormones which are designed to protect us from harm; however if left unmanaged, these hormones can lead to the physical and emotional symptoms noted above. Regular exercise can help counter the effects of stress hormones on the body and restore the body and mind to a greater sense of well-being. Just 20 minutes a day of brisk activity can begin to make a difference. Try scheduling an exercise break into your daily routine either in the morning, during lunch, or after work.

TIP #2: Establish a regular sleep routine. Stress can trigger disruptions in our sleep patterns and disrupted sleep can, in turn, reduce our ability to cope with stress. Resolve this year to make a regular sleep routine for yourself. Avoid caffeine during the evening hours; reduce “screen time” in the evenings, especially an hour before your bedtime; make an attempt to go to bed around the same time in the evenings. Adding a relaxation activity into your nightly routine—taking a warm bath, reading a book or magazine, or listening to relaxing music—can work wonders.

Tip #3: Keep a diary. Keeping a consistent diary for several weeks can be an effective stress management tool. Writing down your stressors on paper can help you to see patterns and explore effective tools for managing each stressor. It can also help you see the stressors differently and look at ways of avoiding triggers in the future if this is possible.

Tip #4: Explore relaxation techniques. There are many different types of relaxation exercises available and some can be practiced in as little as 5-10 minutes a day. Making time to practice these exercises during your daily routine can have numerous benefits including: slowing your heart rate, lowering your blood pressure, improving digestion, reducing anxiety and improving the sense of mental well-being. The types of exercises to choose from can include and are not limited to: deep belly breathing, guided imagery, meditation, yoga and/or tai-chi. If you are new to starting a relaxation “practice” it may be beneficial to explore a few types of exercises and then focus on the type that fits you best. It’s also recommended that a consistent daily practice holds greater benefits than sporadic practice, though these techniques can also be useful during especially difficult times in life. Many smart phones now offer excellent “apps” for free that offer relaxation exercises. This can be excellent way to explore these exercises with guidance.

CAN CHIROPRACTIC HELP EAR INFECTIONS?

Odds are you or someone you know has had an ear infection. In fact, 80 percent of children will be diagnosed with an ear infection before their third birthday. But, why are they so common? More often than not, ear infections are caused by a bacterial or viral infection that can affect the inner, middle or outer ear. An ear infection occurs when the eustachian tubes (the small tubes that run from the ear to the back of the throat) become swollen or blocked, causing fluid to build up. Symptoms include ear pain, impaired hearing, dizziness or impaired balance.

This ailment can be painful and particularly debilitating for children under the age of 5. Although it can be emotionally difficult to see your child in pain, turning immediately to prescribed antibiotics for an ear infection may not be the best answer.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Those with Ear Infections?

Chiropractic care can be a great way to manage and relieve pain and discomfort caused by ear infections. Routine chiropractic care provides patients with ear infections a safe, non-invasive, non-addictive alternative to prescription medications or over-the-counter pain medications (OTCs), which are commonly prescribed to patients to help them manage their pain and swelling.

Chiropractors deliver a gentle, non-invasive, non-addictive therapy, known as a chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic adjustments reduce joint restrictions or misalignments in the spine and other joints in the body in an effort to reduce inflammation and improve function of both the affected joint and nervous system. By increasing joint mobility and improving your nervous system function and spinal health, your body has the ability to better manage the pain caused by ear infections.

To see if chiropractic care is right for your condition, our office will perform a consultation, and examination. Based on the findings of our chiropractic exam and consultation, your doctor of chiropractic may elect to co-treat you or your childs ear infection with other healthcare professionals including massage therapists, physical therapists or other primary care physicians. Or it may be as simple adjustment or misalignment issue.
